Process: Sunshine Rays for Studio Calico Layout

Sometimes when I sit down to make a layout, my initial vision for the project morphs into something even bigger and better than I could have imagined. That's exactly what happened for this layout that I created for Studio Calico's November Main kit, Sock Hop. At first I thought I wanted to create a rainbow effect around a sun with Mister Huey, but let's be honest, that would require some near-perfect spritzing. Not going to happen. So then I had a stroke of genius and decided to create the sun's rays using thread that would match the Mister Huey colors! With a ruler and the lines in the patterned paper as my guide, I penciled in the rays and then poked holes with a paper piercer. Then I used Aunt Lydia's crochet thread in five different rainbow hues (each one matching a Mister Huey) and backstitched the rays coming out of the sun ten times. I can't even tell you how happy the end result made me! Nothing better than a little creative inspiration at the last minute.

Here is completed layout and you can check out the rest of the November kit layouts in my gallery. Sending sunshine your way!
