Design/date night, having my first cocktail in 2 years, trying out Paiche for the first time and loving it, brunch at LYFE Kitchen, Trader Joe's, cooler temperatures, Jack turning 13 months, getting pumpkins, a friend's successful surprise 40th birthday party, laundry, a little work getting accomplished, out of town friends stopping by, Buster recovering well in the hospital after surgery (poor guy in his cone of shame though!), grilling out and catching up on Homeland. Hope you all had a lovely weekend as well!
Our sweet 9 year old Jack Russell, Buster, has been in the hospital for 6 nights after being diagnosed with AIHA. He's received 3 blood transfusions, and his red blood cell count has gone up and down. Up and down. He's had complications like throwing clots. We feel so helpless, but know the doctors are doing the best that they can for him. This was taken on Sunday night after his 3rd transfusion:I posted some updates on Instagram, but wanted to do so here as well. I hesitated to post more about it sooner as the days and nights have been rough, but we remain hopeful especially after reading comments of others who have been through something similar with their fur babies. I cannot thank you enough for your continued thoughts. Our hearts are aching and we just cannot wait to have him home.
UPDATE: HE IS HOME! There's a long road ahead with 5 different medications and injections he needs 3 times a day, around the clock care, but we are so glad we busted him right out of the hospital. Words cannot express how grateful we are for all your comments, thoughts and prayers!!
Yesterday was National Dog Day, which I didn't realize was a thing until I saw a bunch of posts of pups in my IG feed. My dogs would probably tell you I forgot because of a little guy named Jack. But rest assured, we still love you both, Buster and Bamboo! Yesterday we also received A Beautiful Mess Happy Handmade Home!Congrats ladies on your second book!! It will join the first one A Beautiful Mess Photo Idea book on our library cart soon. I flipped through it briefly and it's so cool and fun, just like Elsie + Emma's blog. Speaking of cool, Elsie used our phrase Thickers in this album for her sister. Note: The foam stickers seem to be sold out everywhere except Sakura Lala and Amazon.
It's countdown time, with less than 4 weeks to go, here's a little update:
- the pups are super cuddly, playful and want to be with me no matter where I go
- so thankful for all the kind words when I post about my belly here and on Instagram, it means more than you know.
- I'm no longer feeling shortness of breath (thank goodness) and have stopped taking my inhaler
- the lingering cough seems to have finally left my system
- my ring was stuck on my finger so Kara helped me take it off, apparently I am more swollen than I thought
- feet are a bit swollen as well and I can only wear flip flops - although I tried on my Toms wedges last night and they fit but I am reluctant to wear them.
- still drinking smoothies, trying to eat balanced meals, although the Del Taco drive thru was calling my name last night. Their chicken soft tacos are my favorite.
- baby boy is getting stronger and kicking the movements into high gear and is acting quite cheeky - at the last ultrasound, he stuck his tongue out.
- And I have no idea how to segue from that to this awesome giveaway...

This year I was really excited to get dressed up for the holidays. Fortunately there was JC's company party, so I had an excuse to wear my favorite Melissa shoes. Unfortunately, I did not get a good photo of my outfit all night. JC tried as we left, but it was much too dark. So the outfit post is without my fabulous shoes, however I did find a photo of them on the internet (though it was difficult!). Surprisingly they are comfy and they smell divine (all Melissa shoes do, in fact.) My obsession started when I was in Brazil and bought 2 pairs one night and then as soon as I landed in the next city, I hunted down 2 additional pairs. And now I regret buying more pairs (obsessed, I tell you.)
Anyway, back to what KP and I decided to blog about, which is what we wore to a holiday party. I took this after we got home and I kicked off my shoes. The lighting in the bedroom isn't great, and our place isn't exactly large enough for a full length shot.Dress by Knitted Dove purchased at a sample sale in LA, other cute styles are at ModCloth || bracelet by Belted Wrist || Essie nailpolish in Chinchilly
And if Buster was invited to a fancy holiday party, I am pretty sure he would wear this upcycled bowtie collar from Papaya Pascal. And we would have totally matched.
