Don’t Laugh

Stephanie Howell requested that I post photos of the prom dress I made and mentioned in another post. Well, reluctantly I honored the request. High school photos are just so funny and awkward, but I guess that's the beauty of that era.

I got the inspiration from a Nicole Miller dress I had tried on that was over my budget at $300. At the fabric store there wasn't a pattern exactly like the one I wanted, so I combined 2 different ones. I chose champagne colored fabric and had the satin gloves dyed to match. The beaded trim under the bodice was hand sewn and also added to the gloves.

And for my sewing portfolio, I made this page in college. Please don't laugh. With 3 weeks left until prom, Laura's mom was substitute teaching for my sewing class. She mentioned Laura had something very specific in mind for a dress and if I'd consider making one for her, as she was struggling to find one. It was crunch time but we managed to pull it off. Ryan, her date, was my good friend and lab partner. Coolest part of the page below is the fact that Laura and Ryan were high school sweethearts who are now still happily married.
