Feeling the Love
She was smiling on her 2nd day in the hospital, but now it's Day 15 and she is in the ICU after multiple surgeries. My grandma is the strongest person I know, but if you're the praying kind, our family would appreciate the healing thoughts and prayers. Many of you may have already seen this on Instagram and Facebook, and I just wanted to let you know that we are all beyond grateful for your amazing words. I read many of the comments before boarding a flight from Boston to Los Angeles and was in tears walking down the tarmac. The comfort of friends from all over the world can make such a difference. At first I was frustrated at the fact that the American Airlines plane didn't have internet on board for the nearly 6 hour flight. Then it occurred to me that I could use the time for reading my friend, Kristin Harmel's new book, The Sweetness of Forgetting. Within the first 30 pages I was in tears once again, and thankful at about that time the food service was starting. I began chatting with the lady next to me who clearly noticed my tears. Long story short, after we started talking, we didn't stop. For the entire rest of the flight we covered everything from Ahpo's health to marriage to family to our favorite destinations around the globe. Not only is her daughter-in-law a scrapbooker, but she is a retired nurse. At a time when I felt completely helpless and out of touch 30,000 feet in the air, her words were beyond comforting. It was just what I needed.
Not wanting to waste any time, I went straight to the taxi line at the airport and directly to the hospital. Ahpo was stable and after some time, opened her eyes and acknowledged Cindy, Mommy and me. Her eyes sparkled just a bit and she even had us laughing by some of the things she was saying, like her famous line, "Did you eat?" She has always been the one to look after everyone else. I am sure she can feel the prayers and love from each and every one of you out there. Words cannot express the gratitude felt from the bottom of our hearts (and probably even Ahpo's new pacemaker)! THANK YOU!
